off the beaten path microbrewery

There is a brewery which you may not know about. It is at the end of an industrial park drive and it is a hidden gem.

Idyll Hounds

It is local knowledge that the best beer is at Idyll Hounds Brewing Company. The fact that the tasting room is at the manufacturing facility in an industrial park is what makes it so cool. It’s like it is a speakeasy. The secret password is “give me a beer”. At least that worked for me. The large warehouse is filled with all the large impressive stainless vats for brewing. On tap you will find a selection of commercially available beers in their most fresh form as well as many experimental and small batch specials. The atmosphere spill out into a patio behind the building many tables and chairs.

beer best served with live entertainment

Often times there is live music on the patio or inside depending on the weather. You might catch local artists such as Scott and Shawn, or Tyler James. Check the event schedule here to learn more.

favorite beers

Try the Boosch. Fun to say, even better to drink. Complex New England IPA. Dry hopped with Galaxy, Mosaic and citra. Or chances are you will find a new favorite. The live tap list is here. What I can’t understand is why it is so difficult to find such amazing beers at local stores. I stopped by the Grayton General Store one day and they not only did not have Idyll Hounds Beer, but they didn’t have any craft beers. Perhaps the craft beer craze hasn’t caught on yet. I come form West Michigan – home of Bell’s and Founders among others. In those parts a Budweisser is more difficult to come across than a craft beer.

Guess what! Next door is a distillery! Visit Distillery 98 in their tasting room and production facility. They have great mixers to go with their distilled spirits.
